Membership Policies and
Information
The Valley YMCA is a family organization that values personal responsibility, honesty,
caring, mutual respect and non-violence. In joining, members subscribe to the YMCA
policies and are expected to abide by its rules.
- Membership cards must be carried at all times. Members must pay a $5.00 fee to replace
lost cards.
- Membership card must be presented at each visit. Loan of membership card subjects the
owner to loss of privileges.
- Membership renewals are due upon expiration date.
- When families are present at a Valley YMCA facility/program, parents are responsible for
the supervision of their children unless the children are enrolled in a scheduled,
supervised activity. Parents are expected to help enforce YMCA rules.
- Members currently enrolled in a class may pre-register one week prior to open
registration.
- The Valley YMCA reserves the right to cancel any program that fails to meet minimum
enrollment requirements. Schedules and rates are subject to change.
- Program fees are payable upon registration.
- Reservations for racquetball courts may be made in advance. Only one reservation may be
made at a time.
- The Valley YMCA reserves the right to take pictures/video of its participants for
brochures/publications/web site and other marketing purposes. If you would prefer not to
be photographed, please stop by the Front Desk and let us know in writing.
Registration
In order to make registering for classes a more positive experience, please note the
following:
- Registration must be done in person.
- Full payment is made at the time of registration.
- Class participants must have current, appropriate membership prior to registration.
- Sometimes you may need a second choice because some classes fill quickly.
- Call us if you have any program questions or concerns. We can help you in advance.
The Valley YMCA reserves the right to cancel classes if there is insufficient
enrollment. A refund or credit will be given. (Does not apply to Summer Camps or Sports
Camps/Clinics.)
Cancellation/Make-Up Policy
- Classes that are cancelled by the Valley YMCA due to staff sickness will result in
credit slips being issued to participants.
- Participants may only attend classes for which they are registered.
- Participant absences will not result in any refund of class fees.
Credit
- Full program credit, which can be applied toward any Valley YMCA program, will be
provided, if requested, prior to start of program.
- A 50% credit will be provided, if requested, after the first class, but prior to the
second class.
- Full credits are provided only if the Valley YMCA cancels the class.
- Program credit is redeemable towards programs within a one-year period.
- Basic memberships are non-refundable.
Returned Checks
If any check is returned, for any reason, a $15.00 service charge will be imposed.
Temporary Stop of Membership
Memberships can be put on hold for a documented medical reason. Please call
us at 203-736-1435, x307.
Locker Rooms
All members and program participants are entitled to use our locker room facilities. No
one under 18 years of age is permitted in adult locker rooms. Children under 5 may be
accompanied by a parent into their respective youth/family locker rooms. There is also a
family changing area/bathroom adjacent to the pool area to accommodate parents of the
opposite sex who wish to assist their children. All children 6 and over must use age
appropriate locker rooms and should be encouraged to dress themselves in the locker room
designated for their gender. You must bring your own soap, shampoo and towels. We
encourage the use of a padlock to secure your belongings. We are not responsible for lost
or stolen items. Please protect your valuables.
Insurance
Members need to provide their own health and accident insurance coverage. If there is a
medical emergency, we will contact 911 and/or the Ansonia police. In the case of a serious
accident, we will make every attempt to notify a family member. Please be sure that your
membership application information is updated regularly with emergency contacts.
No Smoking Policy
As the Valley YMCA's facilities are dedicated to health enhancement, there is a no
smoking policy in all areas of the building.
Pool Procedures
Connecticut State law requires that showers be taken before using the swimming pool. A
lifeguard must be on duty before entry to the pool is allowed.
Inclement Weather Cancellations
Please listen to WTNH Channel 8, WICC-600 AM, KC101 FM, and WELI-960 AM for program
updates, delays or cancellations due to inclement weather. There are no refunds for
cancellations of classes due to inclement weather. In addition, if the Ansonia School
system cancels school, all AM adult and youth programs will be cancelled. Call us for
information on afternoon and evening classes.
School delay and cancellation policies for Preschool and Childcare Programs
Preschool: When school is closed/canceled in Ansonia, there is NO
preschool. If there is a delayed opening for Ansonia, Seymour, Oxford, Bethany or
Amity Schools, our morning preschool will begin at 10:30 am and dismiss at 12:30 pm and
our afternoon preschool will begin at 1:00 pm and dismiss at 3:00 pm. If the delay
occurs on a scheduled swim day, our swimming classes will be canceled. In the event
of an early dismissal, parents will be informed personally as to our decision on dismissal
time.
Before and After School Childcare: Is schools are delayed there will be
no before school care while the after school program will take place at the regular time.
If schools are canceled all after school activities are canceled and nor
program will take place. On school half days due to inclement weather, there will be
no after school care.
Your Membership Card is Your Passport
The Valley YMCA Membership cards must be presented upon entering the building to use
the facility and when registering for a program. Proper identification (driver's license
or picture ID) is required. The Valley YMCA rules and regulations apply to all of our
members and guests.
Lost and Found Policy
The Valley YMCA is not responsible for items lost or left on the premises. We encourage
the use of a padlock to secure your belongings. As a courtesy, found or recovered items
are held for two weeks. Unclaimed items are then donated to local community agencies.
Please contact the Front Desk staff about any lost items.

Non-Discrimination Policy
The Valley YMCA does not discriminate or permit discrimination against any person or
group of persons except in the case of a bona fide occupational qualification on the
grounds of race, color, religious creed, age, marital status, familial status, national
origin, ancestry, sex, mental retardation, mental disability, learning disability, lawful
source of income, sexual orientation or physical disability, including, but not limited to
blindness or deafness.
Financial Assistance
The Valley YMCA offers financial assistance to anyone who cannot afford to become a
member or participate in a program. This is made possible through contributions to our
Annual Support Campaign and Invest in Youth Fund. Financial Assistance forms are available
at the front desk upon request and are kept strictly confidential. All applications must
be submitted with proof of income (last year's tax return or a budget sheet from the State
of Connecticut) to be processed in a timely manner. For more information and an

Guest Policy
- There is a maximum of one guest per member per visit. Purchase of guest passes entitles
a guest to use the facility, not including classes or programs.
- During this time, inappropriate behavior on the part of the member or guest will result
in expulsion from the building.
- Program membership does not entitle the bearer to bring guests.
- Youth members are excluded from bringing guests, except if their parent or guardian is
accompanying them for a family activity. (Note that if you are 14 years old and still in
middle school, you are considered a youth member. If you are 18 years old and still in
high school, you are considered a high school member. To discuss your membership options,
please see the Membership/Marketing Director.) All guests ages 14-18 years are
not allowed to use the Fitness Center without an orientation. Guests 14-18 may not
use the fitness center.
- It is the member's responsibility to ensure that their guest follows all rules and
regulations of the Valley YMCA.

- The Valley YMCA reserves the right to limit guest passes.
Out of State YMCA Members Policy
Out-of-state YMCA members (with valid YMCA membership card) can enjoy
free facility usage (up to 4 times per month) according to posted
schedules. Additional fees may apply for program registration.
